Houston, Terrace Teams Take Silver at Provincial Hockey Tournaments
Tournament officials are calling it "hockey at its best". Chase edged Houston 6-5 last night, to win the Provincial Midget Tier Four Championship at Burns Lake's Tom Forsyth Arena. Houston takes home the silver.
Houston made it to the final by edging Golden 3-2 in the morning game, to finish their round robin portion with 10 points, two better than Golden. The Golden team was playing without their regular goaltender, Jay LaRoy, who was injured in the opening day of the tournament Sunday. But he was on the bench this morning, cheering his team on.
The host Burns Lake team closed off the round-robin portion of the tournament with a 7-5 victory over Nakusp, in rough game that saw several player ejections. Burns Lake finished with a record of 3-and-3.
In Winfield, the Terrace Pee Wees had to settle for silver, after losing 6-4 to Castlegar, in the Tier Three final yesterday. Terrace had qualified for the final, by edging Campbell River 4-3 in Wednesday night's semi-final... a game that saw Terrace come back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period.
In Richmond, the Houston-based northwest team was shut out for the second straight game at the Midget Female Provincials. They lost to Meadow Ridge 7-0. Their next game is this morning at 11 against Kamloops.
Other northwest teams finished out of the medals at their respective tournaments. The Kitimat Bantams were 1-and-2 at the Tier Twos in Williams Lake; the Terrace Bantams finished at 2-and-2 at the Tier Threes in Castlegar; the Terrace Midgets ended up 1-and-3 in Victoria Juan de Fuca; and the Burns Lake Pee Wees were 2-and-2 in Clearwater.
