Terrace Wins Silver, Houston Goes For Gold in Provincial Hockey

Local News
It's silver for Terrace, at the Pee Wee Tier-Three Provincial Hockey Championships in Winfield. The Kermodes were beaten 6-4 by Castlegar, in this afternoon's final. Terrace had qualified for the gold/silver game, by edging Campbell River 4-3 in last night's semi-final... a game that saw Terrace come back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period.

Meantime in Burns Lake, it'll be Houston versus Chase for the Provincial Midget Tier Four Championship tonight (at 8). Houston edged Golden 3-2 this morning at the Tom Forsyth Arena in Burns Lake, to finish their round robin portion with 10 points, two better than Golden. The Golden team was playing without their regular goaltender, Jay LaRoy, who was injured in the opening day of the tournament Sunday. But he was on the bench this morning, cheering his team on.

In Richmond, this is day two of the Midget Female Provincials. The Houston-based opened the tournament yesterday with a 3-0 loss to Abbotsford. They were scheduled to play Meadow Ridge today.

Other northwest teams finished out of the medals at their respective tournaments. The Kitimat Bantams were 1-and-2 in Williams Lake; the Terrace Bantams finished at 2-and-2 in Castlegar; the Terrace Midgets ended up 1-and-3 in Victoria Juan de Fuca; and the Burns Lake Pee Wees won two and lost two in Clearwater.

Burns Lake Peewees Rebound From Heartbreaking Loss

Wed, 2010-03-10 13:52.
Local News
The Burns Lake Peewees have rebounded from yesterday's heartbreaking loss, to win their final round-robin game at the Tier Four Provincial Championships in Clearwater. Jarrett Stanyer scored two goals and added an assist, as Burns Lake dumped Windemere Valley 8-2 this morning. Yesterday, Burns Lake lost 4-3 to Lumby, after leading 3-1 with just over two minutes remaining in the game.

Burns Lake finished the round robin with a 3-and-2 record, and now waits to see if the team makes tonight's championship final.

Elsewhere, the Tier-Four Midget Provincials are continuing at the Tom Forsyth Arena in Burns Lake. Yesterday, the Houston Midgets knocked off host team 8-6 in a nailbiter yesterday. In a show of good sportsmanship, a Houston player broke a skate-blade in that game, and a Burns Lake hockey mom found him a replacement -- which turned out to be a skate borrowed from an official.

The Terrace Midgets dropped their final round robin game at the Tier Three provincials in Victoria Juan de Fuca, losing 5-2 to Kerry Park. They finish with a 1-and-3 record.

The Terrace Peewees got back into the win column yesterday in Winfield, outscoring Castlegar 8-7, to finish the round robin at 3-1.

In Bantam action, Kitimat is 1-and-1 at the Tier Two Provincials in Williams Lake, after losing 6-5 to Prince George yesterday. Kitimat led that game 3-0 at one point. They play Juan de Fuca today (at noon).

And the Terrace Bantams finished the round robin with a 2-and-2 record at the Tier Three Provincials in Castlegar, after losing to Dawson Creek 5-1 yesterday. The playoff pairings will be announced this afternoon.
