I'm Feeling Very Olympic and YOU?

Mike in the Morning at Bull-O-Rama 2009

What a fantastic showing at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver by our amazing Canadian athletes. We are golden and will continue to be so. The Women's hockey team did an amazing job against all comers in the tournament, including the Americans in the gold medal game. But of course we can't be without contraversy, especially when there are American papparazzi type journalists around to photograph a post game celebration in an empty arena by some of Canada's female hockey players after just winning their 3rd consecutive gold medal. Sour Grapes maybe? They did no damage and as for one of the players being underage....if she was in her home province of Quebec or in Manitoba for that matter there would be no problem. This was an email I received from Debbie in Texas on the matter after I spoke about it on Friday....

Mornin Mike,

I just had to put my 2 cents worth in.  I thought it was ridiculous when I read the article about the teams celebration in the local paper here.

It appears the team was celebrating in the locker room and was asked to come back onto the ice after the stands had emptied to have pictures done.  Naturally the team did not stop celebrating their well earned win and well earned gold medal.  If these pictures needed to be taken then they should have been taken immediately after the game.  There was no need to expect the team to stop celebrating for a photo op.

Just my thoughts

Have a great weekend.

Debbie

I agree Debbie! Thanks for your opinion.

Whether you like it or not Hockey, be it with male or female players, and beer are indelibly linked at the adult level. I would like to remind our counterparts who are making the big stink, that as far as sports and beer are concerned most are linked! Football, Baseball, just to name a couple. When I play fatman hockey on the weekends it's for the skate and the beer. Get over your righteous indignation and accept the fact that these women are adults and may actually have a beer to celebrate a huge victory, and the feeling of having that beer at centre ice on the surface where you just won, still in your gear, and the cheers still reverberating in your ears, must have been the most outstanding feeling on the planet!!!! An once in a lifetime chance to savour the moment. WAY TO GO LADIES and enjoy the victory how ever you see fit! Maybe Tom Brokaw should have included the fact that we drink beer after our hockey games as one of the differences between Americans and Canadians, but then that would have been a lie. We're just not afraid to admit it. Just my opinion!

GO CANADA GO!!!!

Mornin Mike, Thanks for getting my day started right.  My work day doesn’t’ really get started until your show starts and I hear a Doc Walker song.  Today seems like longer than normal as I have been at work since 6 a.m. which is 4 a.m. your time.  It makes me laugh (my co-workers around me think I am losing my mind) when I hear you talking about fall and frost in the same sentence.  For us frost would be dead of winter (January) and we would be desperately awaiting spring here. Have a great week. Debbie Witek, Houston Texas
